Aaron Hernandez was arrested from his home early this morning
While most of us were at work this morning, Massachusetts State Police were preparing to arrest Aaron Hernandez at his home, and just before 9 am, that's exactly what they did. Immediately following the arrest, the Patriots released him, and in a statement simply said, "At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do." Charges were not disclosed until this afternoon after his court hearing. When details finally were made available to the public, it was found out that Hernandez was charged with first degree murder, five different counts of gun possession, and will be held without bail.
The evidence investigators found while searching his home, and video and phone records were enough to warrant these kind of charges, although Hernandez's attorneys claim the evidence is more circumstantial than rock solid - we shall see. It is always difficult when trying to make sense of a situation like this one but personally I am shocked Hernandez even put himself into a situation like this.
After signing a 5 year, $40 million contract last summer, Hernandez seemed destined for NFL stardom, and looked to put his troubled past behind him. After signing the deal, he talked about the "Patriot Way" and how coaches and teammates helped change his life for the better. When he became a father in early November, Hernandez said, "I can't just be young and reckless Aaron no more, I'm going to try to do the right things."
He seemed to have his life going in the right direction until he made a stupid decision, and things have just been downhill since then. Nothing good ever happens when you leave your home after 3 a.m. and Hernandez is learning that the hard way. All he needed to do was stay out of trouble and he would have been set for life after making millions in the NFL, and now he will be behind bars. It is a tragedy that should not have even happened, but apparently Hernandez's arrogance, and stupidity got the better of him.
